LENNON, John : Baby you can drive my car
Как сообщается, новый рекламный ролик компании Citroen, в котором использованы архивные съёмки интервью с "великим битлом" Джоном Ленноном (John Lennon), стал предметом нешуточных дебатов среди поклонников его творчества.
В ролике Леннон говорит: "Если вещь сделана, она сделана и точка. Так что эта ностальгия по 60-м и 70-м, взгляд назад в поисках вдохновения, попытки копировать прошлое - разве это рок-н-ролл? Сделай что-то своё, начни что-нибудь новое. Живи сейчас". Эти слова, конечно же, определённым образом подчёркивают концепцию новой модели Citroen, выпускаемой под девизом "анти-ретро". Но проблема в том, что Леннон в этом интервью говорил о музыке - не о новой дорогостоящей французской машине.
Британские фанаты Beatles недоумевают, почему Йоко Оно (Yoko Ono), обладающая правами на наследие музыканта, разрешила французскому автогиганту использовать вырванную из контекста часть интервью в рекламе. Позицию своей матери защищает Шон Леннон (Sean Lennon), сын Джона и Йоко. В своём твиттере Шон написал, что "это было сделано не для денег. Просто сложно найти способы поддерживать присутствие отца в современном мире. Сейчас мало вещей столь же эффективных, как телевидение. Я видел рекламу и понимаю, почему люди в ярости от неё... Но наше намерение было не финансовым, это было просто желание сохранить отца для мира... Его новых альбомов уже не выйдет, так что телереклама - своего рода напоминание о нём для молодых". Реплика, конечно, сомнительная - и дело даже не в том, что слова "это было сделано не для денег" вызывают иронию - думается, что вряд ли человек масштаба Леннона нуждается в подобной "рекламе", да и "присутствовать в современном мире" покойный музыкант уже не сможет. А сохранить память о нём и передать её потомкам - уж точно не задача крупных автоконцернов.

A Brush With a Beatle
PETER TOWNSEND figured out pretty quickly that his home at 1 White Street in TriBeCa came with a very special pedigree. Within days of moving in back in 1976, he started receiving mail addressed to John Lennon and Yoko Ono, c/o Nutopian Embassy.
Mr. Townsend had no qualms about opening and reading the letters. “I figured since I lived here, I must be the ambassador of Nutopia,” he said.
The mail didn’t stop coming until a few years after Mr. Lennon was shot and killed. Mr. Townsend, an architect, and his wife, Janna, a New York City schoolteacher, went on to rear their two daughters in the four-story town house, which they have now put on the market for $3.25 million.
The building’s brush with rock ’n’ roll fame started on April Fools’ Day in 1973, when Mr. Lennon and Ms. Ono announced the birth of Nutopia, “a conceptual country” with no boundaries and “no laws other than cosmic.” At the time, Mr. Lennon was being threatened with deportation because of a 1968 marijuana conviction in Britain. As Nutopian ambassadors, he and Ms. Ono asked for diplomatic immunity and United Nations recognition; they gave 1 White Street as the embassy address.
Lennon fans didn’t seem to understand or care that neither of them ever lived there, and a steady stream of Nutopian mail continued for years. “There were a lot that just said, ‘We love you, we wish you the best’ ,” Mr. Townsend said.
After the attack on Mr. Lennon in 1980, outside his actual home at the Dakota, the Townsends found condolence letters flooding in; Mr. Townsend forwarded some of them to Ms. Ono.
The building’s rock ’n’ roll associations extended to fans of The Who, who confused Mr. Townsend with the band’s lead guitarist, Pete Townshend (note the “h”). They would find his name in the telephone book and make drunken calls at 3 a.m. to ask for concert tickets or how Roger Daltrey was doing.
The Townsends were initially renters, occupying only the top floor. They bought the building in 1980 for $150,000, eventually turning the top three floors into a single-family home. The ground floor, which has long had a restaurant of some type, is currently home to a cafe called Columbine that opens onto West Broadway, and provides $3,100 a month in rent.
The Townsends’ broker, Dexter Guerrieri, the president of Vandenberg Inc., said that the 1808 town house has a roof garden. Both he and Mr. Townsend are hoping for a sale with no Mind Games.

Поклонники творчества The Beatles негодуют. Дело в том, что вдова Леннона, лидера знаменитой группы, дала согласие на использование фрагмента видеозаписи Джона в рекламе автомобиля. "К чему вся эта ностальгия? Попробуйте нечто новое! Живите сейчас" - такие слова звучат в ролике из уст музыканта.
Права на использование фрагмента из домашнего архива Йоко Оно передала автоконцерну Citroen. Однако с продажами нового Citroen DS3, продвигаемого в Великобритании, могут возникнуть сложности. Поклонники творчества The Beatles крайне негативно восприняли новость о столь оригинальном способе отрекламировать новое авто, они призывают бойкотировать машину, отказавшись от ее покупки.
Фанаты Джона возмущены действиями Йоко Оно и не могут понять, как она могла позволить французскому концерну использовать образ столь любимого ими музыканта. Q magazine's Lennon Lost Weekend story got lost in the retelling, says May Pang
We happened to be in Border's the other night and bought the February Q magazine with John Lennon on the cover hyping its story "John Lennon's Lost Weekend: The Untold Story & the Unseen Photographs." The Lennon article is a seven-page recounting of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll tale we've all heard before.
We asked May Pang, author of "Instamatic Karma: Photographs of John Lennon," and who was with Lennon during that time, what she thought of the article.
"I've just seen the issue of Q and I was disappointed with the storyline they took," she wrote us. "I was interviewed but they decided to go along the 'standard party line' route and left things out. They did use my photos, which of course, do not match the written piece. John looking happy and healthy in the photos which is not depicted in the article.
"I couldn't believe they didn't mention Julian at all despite the fact he is even in one of the photographs printed. Q obviously went with the old myths of it being 'the lost weekend' despite anything I told them. I found some of the Harry Nilsson contract related section wrong. John did all the talking to get the contract for Harry; Harry did a lot of drinking and not saying a word...I should know I was there. The article had a dark tone overall."
Pang also told us she had just visited the exhibit of Iain Macmillan photos in Scotland. Macmillan was the photographer of the Beatles "Abbey Road" album cover.
"I just returned from Dundee, Scotland where I was invited to the preview of the Iain Macmillan photo exhibition called 'From Dundee to Abbey Road,' she told us. "This was very personal to me as Iain and I were still close friends up until the time he died. The gallery included two photos of me that were never seen before by the public which I so honored to be a part of. The exhibition will be running for three months."

"John Lennon's 70th Birthday".
John Lennon would have been 70 this October and there are many celebrations planned, including one at The Hard Days Night Hotel (Just a Whisper that Ozzie Osborne will be appearing). Gary who owns the Hard Days Night Shop is a total John Lennon geek and has designed a whole range of collectible memorabilia to celebrate the great mans birthday. I have managed to get my hands on one of the new T Shirts and it looks great. There are eight designs (all officially approved by Apple) in the range, all based on John's original sketches and they have been released in the shop this week. You can view all eight here. He is also adding a whole load of Lennon stuff as the year progresses, so keep checking back. |

Citroen 'Lennon' ad delivers more than 1.4 million cinema impacts
Citroen advertised against 13 of the 15 most-watched films last week, with a campaign that delivered at least 1.47 million impacts over the weekend.
The majority of Citroen's impacts came from 'Shutter Island', 'Green Zone', 'Avatar' and 'Hachi: A Dog's Tale' which delivered a combined 1.1 million impacts over the weekend.
The Citroen ad, made by Havas agency Euro RSCG, features archive footage from John Lennon taking about how "rock and roll' was about looking forwards rather than backwards.

Lennon's original Imagine piano delivered to Phoenix museum
This week, the soon-to-be-open Musical Instrument Museum in north Phoenix took delivery of the piano in which John Lennon of The Beatles composed "Imagine." The instrument will appear in the space's Artist Gallery alongside gear that George Benson used as well as the ax Paul Simon gigged on during his infamous Central Park concert.

Liverpool's John Lennon tribute season announced
JOHN LENNON will be remembered in a tribute season of music, film and verse in his home city.
The two-month cultural programme of events will be launched on October 9 – on what would have been the former Beatle’s 70th birthday.
And they will come to a climax with a major memorial concert, John Lennon Remembered, at the Echo Arena Liverpool on December 9, the day after the 30th anniversary of his murder.
The John Lennon Tribute Season is being organised by the Beatles Story, Cavern City Tours, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Mersey Partnership, Liverpool One and Liverpool City Council.

Ливерпуль отпразднует 70-летие Джона Леннона двухмесячным фестивалем
Осенью 2010 года в Ливерпуле пройдет двухмесячный фестиваль, приуроченный к 70-летию со дня рождения Джона Леннона, сообщает Gigwise.
Праздничные мероприятия стартуют 9 октября - в день рождения Леннона, а закончатся 9 декабря - на следующий день после тридцатой годовщины его смерти. В программе фестиваля множество музыкальных, поэтических и художественных мероприятий. Власти Ливерпуля рассчитывают за время проведения фестиваля принять несколько десятков тысяч туристов.
"Призывы Джона к миру и любви с течением времени становятся все более актуальными. Фестиваль позволит нам еще раз вспомнить Джона, восхититься его музыкой и вкладом в культурное наследие нашего города", - заявил лорд-мэр Ливерпуля Майк Стори.
Джон Леннон родился в Ливерпуле 9 октября 1940 года. В конце 50-х годов вместе с Полом Маккартни он создал группу The Moondogs, которая позже была переименована в The Silver Beatles, а потом в The Beatles. Ливерпуль готовится к юбилею Леннона
Ливерпуль готовится к юбилейным торжествам по случаю 70-летия со дня рождения знаменитого уроженца города - участника легендарных "Битлз" Джона Леннона (John Lennon). Фестиваль The John Lennon Tribute Season стартует 9 октября и продлится ровно два месяца. В течение этого времени на разных площадках будут проходить музыкальные шоу, кинопоказы, арт выставки и поэтические чтения.
«Джон Леннон является одной из культовых фигур 20 века, - говорит мэр Ливерпуля, советник Майк Сторей. - Его бессмертное послание мира продолжает и по сей день вдохновлять людей по всему миру. If a product breathlessly hyping itself makes you wary, be prepared. You'll hear that a lot throughout "The Beatles: Rare and Unseen."
The single disc DVD starts out with promoting its exclusive unseen footage through "rare and previously unseen home movies, personal photographs, recently discovered film and true stories told first hand by the people who were really there." And on that score, it lives up to the hype.
Well, sort of.
The rare footage includes the earliest known footage of the Beatles onstage in Liverpool in 1962, a rare film of the Caird Hall, Dundee, Scotland show in October, 1964, footage taken during the making of "Help!," home movie footage from the 1964 Paris Olympia show and a rarely seen French TV interview with John Lennon.
And it's all there -- if you don't mind the fact that the interviewees are superimposed over the rare footage more often than not. Sadly, none of the rare film is seen unedited. What is there, though, is tantalizing, like dangling a carrot in front of a horse. It sure makes you wish for more of it without the unnecessary obstructions.
Some of the interviews, on the other hand, are quite good. The best are Abbey Road recording engineer Norman "Hurricane" Smith, Gerry Marsden of Gerry and the Pacemakers and former Beatles press officer Tony Barrow. Others offering comments include Ken Dodd, Sylvie Vartan, Sam Leach, Quarrymen member Colin Hanton, Phil Collins and Steve Harley of Cockney Rebel.
But even the interviews have a few snags. In near succession, different interviewees recall "the original Beatles" as having different lineups. An eight-page booklet features text by Barrow and more rare photos.
Even more frustrating is the fact that the disc's special features are extended interviews with everyone on the disc -- but not the raw unedited rare footage.
Sigh.
Still, just seeing this stuff is great. And at least some of the interviews aren't the deadweight talking head interviews usually found on many of the endless line of DVDs that tell the Beatles story.
If only, though, someone had figured out that the rare footage would have been better appreciated if left the producers had left it the hell alone.

Изуродованная статуя Джона Леннона будет демонтирована
Бронзовая статуя знаменитого битла в натуральную величину была установлена около ратуши в городе Альмерия (южная Испания) всего два года назад. Здесь в 1966 году Леннон написал свою классическую "Strawberry Fields Forever". Джон провел тогда в городе 2 месяца во время съемок фильма "Как я выиграл войну".
Это не первое нападение на статую. Однажды от памятника оторвали знаменитые очки битла. Неоднократно он был измазан краской. Его автор Carmen Mudarra заявила: "Это не случайные акты вандализма. Они пришли туда с намерением повредить его".
Чиновники из ратуши разочарованы многочисленными нападениями и актами вандализма и приняли решение не восстанавливать памятник в очередной раз и деммонтировать его.

A few details about what will be seen in the 'John Lennon: Rare and Unseen' DVD
Here are some of the contents:
"Man of the Decade," a 1969 program that has circulated among collectors and, according to the press release, "aired once in 1969 and unseen since,"
"Aquarius," no further description, "Unseen since the '70s,"
"Weekend World, "Thought wiped and unseen out of the UK"
"Frost" (we assume that means David Frost), never released on DVD.
The DVD will also have opinions from Phil Collins, Len Goodman and Tony Barrow.

Wienerworld and MVD Visual have announced the DVD release of John Lennon "Rare and Unseen" on May 18, 2010. (Released February 22 in the U.K.)
The next title of the "Rare and Unseen" series takes an inside look at the rock musician, singer-songwriter, author and peace activist who made it as one of the world's most successful solo artists after his departure from The Beatles in 1969: John Lennon.
From his musical and songwriting input with The Beatles (especially his partnership with McCartney) to his astronomical solo career, Lennon has written some of the most popular music in rock and roll history.

Here's a peek inside The John Lennon Singles Bag that's out this Saturday on Record Store Day, April 17. We've seen costs advertised on the internet for this ranging from $17 to $23.
A 45 RPM vinyl copy of John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band "Mother"/Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band "Why." Apple single 1827, printed on the green Apple label. The picture sleeve, as shown in the slideshow below, is heavier than the original.
A 45 RPM vinyl copy of John Lennon "Watching the Wheels"/Yoko Ono "Yes, I'm Your Angel." The record contains the original picture sleeve with the picture of John and Yoko walking out of the Dakota taken by Paul Goresh. As with the "Mother" single, it's printed on a heavier stock paper than the original. The record has a purple Capitol label that says "For Jukeboxes Only" on it.
A 45 RPM copy of John Lennon Plastic Ono Band "Imagine"/"It's So Hard." The record, Apple single 1940, is pressed on a gold/green Apple label with both apple pictures showing the outside of the apple, not outside and inside as the "Mother" single does.

Acid test for John Lennon
JOHN LENNON experts are taking a, er, trip down memory lane with their latest finding.
Hardcore fans of the BEATLES legend reckon they have uncovered where in the grounds of his Surrey home he hid his stash of LSD more than 40 years ago.
Builders digging up the lawn of his old house, Kenwood, came across the remains of a leather holdall containing several large broken glass bottles. Legend has it that John buried a large quantity of the drug in his garden in 1967 when The Beatles declared they had given up drugs in favour of transcendental meditation.
But when the band returned from India, John decided he'd been a bit hasty and tried to dig it up - but never found it.
Now fans are convinced these bottles contained the missing treasure - though they will never know for sure as the one bottle found intact had a cracked cork, so it was empty.
