INTERNATIONAL Beatle Week is set to deliver another tourism bonanza for Merseyside this summer, with a packed programme of Fab F our related activities.
To mark the 25th anniversary of the first Beatle Week, Cavern City Tours have organised their most ambitious programme yet.
Mark McGann will be donning the famous round specs for John Lennon: In My Life, revisiting the award-winning role that launched his successful career as an actor and musician. He will be playing at the Philharmonic Hall on August 29.
Billy J Kramer will be playing his first UK concert in seven years, Denny Laine will performing Wings and Moody Blues classics.
The event will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pete Best joining the Beatles with a garden party at the legendary Casbah Club.
The Overtures play the Philharmonic Hall on Friday August 27. They will recreate the sounds of The Beatles, Stones, Kinks, The Who and The Byrds – all accompanied by a multi-media show billed as The Bootleg 60s Show.
The finale to Beatle Week will be The Beatles Variety Show.
Spanning the whole spectrum of their career, special guests include Barry Wom and Ron Nasty from The Rutles, (aka Neil Innes and John Halsey), and Denny Laine performing a Wings set, Apple recording star Joey Molland plays his Badfinger hits and one of the world’s best Beatle bands round the night off with a bang.
Bill Heckle, Director of Cavern City Tours and Festival Organiser, said: “We have been organising the festival for 25 years this August, and are delighted that it has become the biggest of it’s kind attracting Beatle fans from over 40 different countries in the place where it all began, Liverpool.”
New additions to the programme include the Love, Peace and Understanding concert at Liverpool Cathedral.
Jon Keats, Cavern Events and Director of Love, Peace and Understanding, said: “This will not only raise funds for the Cathedral, but will demonstrate via the medium of the Beatles music and solo repertoire, that as Paul and Ringo observed, their music had three broad messages, love, peace and understanding.
“The sheer scale of this event will make it the most ambitious project ever staged at Beatle Week.
