At the request of actress Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul McCartney wrote a post for www.goop.com in support of Meat Free Monday. Here's part of what he wrote: "It’s amazingly easy to take one day in your week, Monday or any other day, and not eat meat. When you think about it, there are so many great alternatives, for instance, in Italian cooking, so many of the dishes are vegetarian already and Thai and Chinese cuisine are the same. All it means is that you have to think a bit about what you’ll eat that day but, in actual fact, far from being a chore, it’s a fun challenge." You can find the complete post at his website.

And the Best Song Oscar won't be going to Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney's "(I Want To) Come Home" from the Robert DeNiro film "Everybody's Fine" was shut out in the Best Song choices for the Oscar nominations announced this morning.
That wasn't totally surprising considering it didn't make the cut for either the Golden Globes or the VH1 Critics' Choice Awards. T-Bone Burnett's "The Weary Kind (Theme from "Crazy Heart") from "Crazy Heart", which won both, did, however, and not surprisingly.
Also nominated were two songs from the Randy Newman-scored "The Princess and the Frog": "Almost There," sung by Anika Noni Rose, and "Down in New Orleans," sung by one-time Ringo Starr All-Starr Band member Dr. John.
The five nominees are rounded out by "Loin de Paname" from "Paris 36" and "Take it All" from "Nine."
This is unfortunate. "(I Want To) Come Home" is a great song that should have done better.

How U2 and Paul McCartney got shut out of Oscar nominations
Paul McCartney U2 Oscars Nominations Academy Awards 13579 While there were 63 songs contending for a place at this year's Oscars, only five made the final cut. Last year it was Oscar champ Bruce Springsteen who was snubbed for his Golden Globe-winning title track to "The Wrestler." This year U2 and Paul McCartney got slapped down by the music branch of the academy for tunes written specifically for films. U2 wrote and performed "Winter" for "Brothers," while McCartney did the same for "(I Want to) Come Home" from "Everybody's Fine."
Both of these musical powerhouses have a connection to the Academy Awards. U2 lost a best song bid at the 2002 Oscars for "The Hands That Built America" from "Gangs of New York" to Eminem's "Lose Yourself" from "8 Mile."
This year, the Irish rockers and Sir Paul both lost the best song race at the Golden Globes to "The Weary Kind" from "Crazy Heart." That track - written by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett - is in contention at the Oscars, as are two tunes from "The Princess and the Frog" by Oscar champ Randy Newman, "Take It All" from "Nine" by two-time Tony winner Maury Yeston and "Loin de Paname" from "Paris 36" by Reinhardt Wagner and Frank Thomas.
Newman, who was not a Globe nominee this year, won his only Oscar out of 17 nominations in 2001 for the song "If I Didn't Have You" from "Monsters, Inc." Among those he edged out was Paul McCartney, who was nominated for the title track of "Vanilla Sky." In 1973, McCartney and his wife Linda had landed in the best song race for the theme to "Live and Let Die" - they lost to "The Way We Were." McCartney had shared in an Oscar win with the rest of The Beatles in 1970 for their original song score to "Let It Be."
With such musical pedigrees, how did U2 and McCartney not make it into the final five this year? Oscars' Rule 16 sets out the criteria for winnowing the list of eligible songs down to the final nominees. There was no need for the executive committee of the music branch to recommend that there be only three nominees, as the number of songs far exceeded the threshold of 25 that might have triggered such action.
Unlike other branches - such as acting, which uses a preferential ballot - the music makers screen clips of all the eligible entries and then score them on a sliding scale from 6 to 10, with half-point increments in between. If a member has a song in contention, they are ineligible to vote.
As per the rulebook, "If no song receives an average score of 8.25 or more, there will be no nominees in the category. If only one song achieves that score, it and the song receiving the next highest score shall be the two nominees. If two or more songs (up to five) achieve that score, they shall be the nominees."
With five nominees this year, we know they all scored at least 8.25. Perhaps the tunes by U2 and McCartney broke that barrier as well but fell short of the even higher scores registered by the nominees.

Paul McCartney visits the British House of Commons
Sir Paul McCartney made a surprise visit to the public gallery of the British House of Commons today. He surprised staff and officials by arriving alone and stayed for about five minutes. Celebrities often attend the Commons as VIP guests, but it is rare for someone of Sir Paul's stature to arrive like any other member of the public.

Just announced: 'Everybody's Fine' on DVD with Paul McCartney bonus feature

We just received word that "Everybody's Fine," the Robert DeNiro film with the Paul McCartney song "(I Want To) Come Home," nominated for both a Golden Globe and VH1 Critics' Choice Movie Award, will be released on DVD Feb. 23.
"Everybody's Fine" will have a list price of $29.99, though online venders and retail stores will sell it cheaper.
For those of you wondering, there is no Blu-ray release scheduled as of now right now.
DeNiro stars as a recently retired widower who makes an impromptu cross-country pilgrimage that ends up revealing a host of family secrets. The film also stars Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, and Sam Rockwell.
The DVD release contains a featurette on the making of the McCartney song, a behind-the-scenes short subject and deleted and extended scenes not included in the theatrical release.

The DVD version of the Robert DeNiro film "Everybody's Fine," which is being released Feb. 23, will have a special feature on the making of the Paul McCartney song "(I Want To) Come Home."
We've seen the feature, which runs just shy of 10 minutes, and it features Paul talking about how the song came about after he'd seen an early screening of the film.
As Paul says in the clip, "(I Want To) Come Home" almost didn't happen, but he was motivated to compose it after hearing a song he heard used in the film at that screening. It was none other than "Let It Be," though it was a cover by Aretha Franklin and not the original Beatles version.
The feature also features footage of Paul working on the song in his studio and at the orchestration session at AIR Studios.

Sir Paul McCartney to get Hollywood star
SIR PAUL McCartney is to be honoured with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after Ringo Starr received his last week.
The Beatles drummer, 69, was feted outside the Capitol Records building in LA on Monday night.
His star is close to those of John Lennon and George Harrison, which were both awarded posthumously. The Beatles received the honour collectively as a band in 1988.
But Macca, 67, is the only Beatle left not to have his own star.
This is despite him being listed in the Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music, with 60 gold discs and sales of 100million singles.
But he will be given his star as soon as a date can be arranged for him to unveil it on the most famous walkway in the world.
A source from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which awards the stars, said at Ringo’s event: “Paul McCartney has long been approved for one of his own, so a date for his ceremony should be forthcoming.”

Sir Paul McCartney slams Tory plans to bring back fox hunting
SIR Paul McCartney has slammed Tory plans to bring back fox hunting, saying the ban had been a historic victory for wildlife.
Macca said: "The scenes of animals being hunted down and savaged with dogs for fun before the Hunting Act was passed were simply barbaric and shocking and should remain a part of Britain's past not its future."
Tory leader David Cameron says the ban doesn't work and has promised a free vote on repealing the law.

Sir Paul McCartney hopes Abbey Road can be saved
Sir Paul McCartney has told the BBC he hopes the famous Abbey Road Studios can be saved, after reports that it has been put up for sale by owner EMI.
Selling the studios, best known for being the place where the Beatles recorded their albums, could raise J30m for the debt-stricken record company.
Sir Paul told the Newsnight programme some people associated with the studio may be "mounting some bid to save it".
EMI and its private equity owner Terra Firma have declined to comment.
It is not known if any sale would see the site continue as a record studios or be converted for another use.
"There are a few people who have been associated with the studio for a long time who were talking about mounting some bid to save it," said Sir Paul.
"I sympathise with them. I hope they can do something, it'd be great."
Zebra crossing
EMI recently revealed that it needs to raise more than J100m from investors to prevent it from breaching its banking arrangements with US lending giant Citigroup.
Earlier this month, the record company also reported a pre-tax loss of J1.75bn for the year to 31 March 2009.
Abbey Road Studios still draws Beatles fans from around the world, many of whom pose for photographs on the nearby zebra crossing to imitate the front cover of the Beatles' last recorded album, Abbey Road.
The building in the St John's Wood area of London is a converted 1831 Georgian townhouse.

Abbey Road:
http://www.starslife.ru/2010/02/17/pol-makkartni-spasite-ebbi-roud/
Abbey Road
The Beatles.
В разное время на Abbey Road записывали свои песни такие группы как Pink Floyd, U2, Duran Duran, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis, Green Day и другие.

Sir Paul McCartney attacks Tory moves to bring back fox hunting PAUL MCCARTNEY has said he'll fight any moves by the Tories to bring back fox hunting. David Cameron has promised his Conservative MPs a free vote on the repeal of Labour's anti-hunt laws if elected. Beatles legend Macca is now backing wildlife campaigners in their bid to safeguard the hunting ban. The Hunting Act came into force in England and Wales five years ago today. Similar laws banning hunting with dogs was passed at Holyrood three years earlier. McCartney speaks out in a new report for the International Fund for Animal Welfare action campaign.

This date in Macca history: Paul McCartney becomes a birthday present
That's what financier Ralph Whitworth did for his wife Wendy to celebrate her 50th birthday on Feb. 22, 2003. Whitworth hired out a club in Rancho Santa Fe, CA., for a private party and had Paul McCartney perform for a cool $1 million fee for charity.
Paul McCartney performed at a private birthday party for about 150 people in Rancho Santa Fe Saturday night, with proceeds going to a charity for victims of land mines.
The command performance was a $1 million birthday present from financier Ralph Whitworth to his wife, who was still walking on air Sunday "Paul McCartney walked on stage and I thought somebody was playing a trick on me," said Wendy Whitworth, who celebrated her 50th birthday on Saturday with a little help from her husband, friends and the legendary former Beatle and his current band.
"It was sooooo exciting," said Whitworth, an executive producer for CNN's "Larry King Live" and a huge McCartney fan.
With a voice still hoarse from excitement she added, "How would you feel? You can't believe it."
Believe it.
Managing partner of his $1.7 billion Relational Investors fund, Whitworth hired McCartney for a private, 90-minute concert at a Rancho Santa Fe restaurant turned into a birthday party nightclub for the occasion.
Cost: $1 million.
It was the first time ever that the former Beatle had performed at a private party, Whitworth said.
McCartney agreed to perform on condition that the money be donated to Adopt-A-Minefield, a group championed by his wife Heather Mills that seeks to clear mines and aid victims, Whitworth said.
And how does one hire McCartney for such a celebration?
"I knew him before," Whitworth said. "I just rang him up four, or five, weeks ago and said I had a great win-win idea. I don't think he would have done this just for the money. This was as much for the wonderful cause championed by him and his wife."
Said McCartney in a statement issued Sunday: "Normally, I don't do this sort of gig, but I was chuffed to do it because it was a win-win show."
"Ralph gets to be the great husband for organizing the surprise, his wife gets a rocking party, I get to rehearse the band for the tour and, most important, Adopt-A-Minefield gets $1 million," McCartney said.
McCartney has announced he will go on a concert tour of his native England for the first time in 10 years.
Whitworth went to great ends to hide the presence of McCartney's entourage in laid-back Rancho Santa Fe, one of the priciest locations in the nation with about 2,500 residents living on huge estates about 15 miles northwest of San Diego.
"We even minimized the advance team, limiting the number of people with English accents setting up things," Whitworth said. "Only 20 people knew this was going to happen."
So, under deep cover, a Paseo Delicias restaurant was converted into a nightclub.
Larry King and Katie Couric were among the 150 guests who came to Whitworth's ultimate birthday party, unaware that Sir Paul would be performing live and in person.
"He opened with 'Hello-Goodbye' and did 'Yesterday' with the same guitar he used on the Ed Sullivan Show," Ralph Whitworth said.
"Later, he gave Wendy a guitar pick. He got her on the stage and danced with her while playing 'Birthday.' That was memorable."
Other melodies in a 19-song set included "Hey Jude," it was an audience sing-along, as well as "I Saw Her Standing There," Whitworth said.
But now Whitworth has quite a challenge for his wife's next birthday. After all, how do you top a private Paul McCartney concert?
"I wanted to do something special for her 50th birthday," Whitworth said. "I'll say I have another 50 years to come up with something else like this."

- Тогда ваша жена сказала, что давно мечтала увидеть дом, откуда пошли по свету такие всемирно известные хиты, как "Yesterday", "And I Love Her", "I Want To Hold Your Hand".

Paul McCartney rates #31 of Billboard top money makers list for 2009
All that touring Paul McCartney did last year helped him make #31 on Billboard's list of top 40 money makers of 2009.
The magazine said he earned $12,203,170, most of which -- $11.4 million -- came from playing arenas, stadiums and his headlining slot at Coachella.
His live album/DVD package, "Good Evening New York City," sold 234,000 copies and helped add to the $609,000 he earned from album sales.

For Whom The Bell Tells...Issue 7 by Stuart Bell An Up and Coming Artist
Last week I was lucky enough invited along by some journalist pals to this year's BRIT Awards at London's Earls Court. The star studded bash is always a good laugh and, for many of the industry a chance to really let their hair down. As I arrived, a group of photographers gathering by the entrance excitedly ran over. 'Is your man coming?', asked one feverishly. 'Not this year guys', I told them. 'Shame', another remarked, 'it's what this event needs'. Discussion then ensued about Paul's 2008 performance and it being the only time that audience figures didn't drop during the finale of the show, when Paul closed the show in epic style with his band after receiving the Outstanding Contribution Award.
This first encounter of the evening proved to be the blueprint for most of my conversations in the following hours. Including one with X Factor judge Louis Walsh who gushingly told us that Paul was the best thing they've ever had on the show and it's going to be impossible to top in the future. Well, we are hardly going to argue with that!
When I reached my table and the wine got flowing the journalists were discussing what's going to be big in 2010. The usual names cropped up. Ellie Goulding, Marina and The Diamonds, The Drums, Detroit Social Club, Delphic and so on (D obviously an important letter if you want chart success this year!). I was asked what would I be working on this year and who did I think would be an up and coming artist? 'Easy', I said. '2010 is all about one 'up and coming' artist. We are looking after an amazing singer songwriter that will tear it up this year'. The guys at the table looked at me curiously. 'Well, tell us, who is it'? As if by magic, right at that point, the ceremony went to a commercial break and inside the hall the large screens revealed footage from 2008's Awards of a very famous face, armed with his band, almost setting the stage alight during that electric set that had everyone up on their feet. 'Of course', exclaimed one of our party, 'he means Paul McCartney'. 'Yep', I said, 'Paul McCartney is THE up and coming artist'. The table erupted with cheers.
The joke, and a great one it is too, wasn't mine.
Last week Paul and the team met up at the Bat Cave (as named by Lauren Laverne when she came to interview Paul at his office last year) for the first tour production meeting of the year.
After much banter, led by our very own Bat Man I must add, it was down to some exciting work. Plans and ideas were flowing for the way the show should look, set list ideas (Paul has been working on some surprises) and lots of other detail such as rehearsal scheduling and tour programme ideas. When Paul and his promoter Barrie laid out the proposed forthcoming dates Paul explained they had been chatting and 'liked the idea of calling the tour the 'Up And Coming Tour'', just like the journalists at the BRITs the joke wasn't wasted on us!
As you will have read exclusively on PM.com the first couple of shows have been announced. The first show will see Paul return to Phoenix for the first time since 05 and the second show brings Paul back to the Hollywood Bowl for the first time since 1993. When discussing the Hollywood Bowl show and what we could come up with to wow the audience, Paul joked that we could 'fill the pond with 5000 little yellow rubber ducks that could explode in Live And Let Die'! In the end it was decided against so as not to offend rubber duck lovers.
Congratulations to fellow news breaker, Perez Hilton. On his website on Saturday (20th Feb) Perez ran the first of many speculative stories, 'Paul McCartney To Perform At The Hollywood Bowl'. He urged his readers to keep their eyes and ears open as the tickets are going to sell out first. Of course we exclusively ran the official news earlier this week (Monday 22nd February) confirming that the show is taking place.
------------------
Outside of the music world Paul was keeping us busy too. I was at home one evening and my mobile rang. "Can you confirm or deny that Paul McCartney is right now, at this moment, in the Houses Of Parliament?', demanded a member of Her Majesty's press. 'Well', I said, 'I can't do either. I'll have to check it out for you'. I hung up the phone. A quick call to Paul's right hand man, John, revealed that he had seen the light on as he drove past and decided to stop off. Inside MPs were debating planned reforms to the voting system, seemingly unaware that music's number one hit machine had taken a seat above the chamber. Within minutes more calls, text and emails coming in, all wanting to know Paul's interest in voting reform. When I chatted with Paul the next day he told me it was something he used to often do regularly and that a lot of people didn't realise that there were viewing gallerys there open to the public. A source at the Houses Of Parliament told us that following Paul's visit a lot of the visitors they have had since have been wearing Paul McCartney t-shirts.
------------------
Finally, and on a much more serious note, news broke last week that EMI were planning on selling off Abbey Road studios to help pay their debts. We were hearing all kinds of rumours of the amount of money they were asking for being simply too high for anyone other than a property developer. The thought of Abbey Road falling into the wrong hands and not continuing as a working studio just doesn't compute. As the press reported during the week it's vital that Abbey Road stays open as a functional studio. Social network groups (add Facebook link) have been attracting hundreds of thousands of supporters across the world, campaigning to keep it going. Its relevance and importance in the recording world is unrivalled. It's THE most historic studios in the world, with bands such as The Beatles, Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers, Pink Floyd, Oasis and many more all recording there. It pulls in millions of visitors each year and still attracts the biggest bands in the world to record there.
Paul spoke to BBC Newsnight, telling them, "There are a few people who have been associated with the studio for a long time who were talking about mounting some bid to save it and I sympathise with them. I hope they can do something, it'd be great. Obviously I've got so many memories there with The Beatles. It still is a great studio so it would be lovely for someone to get a thing together to save it."
"The Beatles are just like Shakespeare so let's save Abbey Road for the nation", wrote DJ Chris Evans in The Sun. Lord Lloyd Webber declared his interest in buying the studios in order to keep them going as a working studio.
On Sunday, after mounting pressure, EMI released a statement confirming that 'they are holding discussions for the revitalisation with appropriate third parties' and that they 'have developed plans to revitalise the studio and these plans would involve a substantial injection of new capital'. They confirmed they had received an offer for the studio last year but believe it should remain in EMI's ownership.
For Whom The Bell Tells will be keeping a very close eye on developments and urge all our readers to join any campaign to keep the studio working.
------------------
That's us done for this weekalmost. As I'm finishing off the column, '(I Want To) Come Home' has just come on Radio 2 (where it is currently play-listed by the station), which reminds me to remind you that the digital release is out now.
In the meantime, keep tuned to PaulMcCartney.com in the coming days. Lots more exciting announcements and news expected very soon. We'll continue to give you the insiders view.

Family Day at Stella McCartney’s Show in Paris
It was like a Parent’s Day, at Stella McCartney’s autumn/winter 2010/2011 show, at the Paris pret-a-porter season on Monday morning.

Sir Paul McCartney, the proud father, with his girlfriend, Nancy Shevell, by his side, beamed, as his daughter’s collection came down the catwalk.
On his other side sat, Maria Shriver, the First Lady of California, and the wife of the Governor of California, the actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, a surprise front-row guest, with her daughter, Christina - both attending their first Paris show.
Alongside them was Twiggy, with husband Leigh Lawson, smiling, too, in the knowledge her daughter, Carly, was backstage, a key member of Stella’s design team.
Ms McCartney dedicated this collection to her husband, children, family, team and friends, adding, in a tribute to the late British designer, Alexander McQueen, “This one is also for Lee- you’re missed!”
The former Beatle’s daughter, who joined Gucci Group with her own label, in 2001, chose to return to the opulent surroundings of the neo-baroque Opera Garnier - the place where she first made her Paris debut as the designer for Chlo#233;, in March, 1997.
Back then, she made her name with mannish tailoring and vintage-lingerie. Yesterday’s show was clean-cut, modernist and devoid of accessories, save for shiny, patent, pointy-toe slingbacks.
Straight coats in grey, camel or black cashmere, featured notched lapels, or cuffed, patch-pockets. Anorak-jackets had sealed seams, quilting details and detachable hoods, in rubberized ivory and black.
Linear shifts were above the knee in front, but cut longer at the back. High-collared tunics, buttoned down the back, came over black, slim trousers with deep turn-ups.
While the daywear was minimalist, McCartney’s after-dark approach allowed a hint of decoration, via hand-embroidered and sequinned, lace slips, veiled in organza, and purple, cinnamon and orange satin gowns, cut high in front, but with a long, straight-cut “train”, streaming behind.
Meanwhile, at the Emanuel Ungaro show, mystery surrounded the complete absence backstage of the Hollywood star, Lindsay Lohan, who last season made a universally derided debut as the famous French house’s ”fashion advisor”, alongside the chief designer, the Spanish, Estrella Archs.
According to an inside source, Lohan was “not even invited to the show”, although she has been a prominent presence during the Paris season, including sitting front row at John Galliano.
Speaking backstage, Ms Archs confirmed that the actress, best known for her tabloid exploits, “was not involved in any way.”
The Ungaro collection referenced some of the founder’s signatures, such as a black and white, Prince of Wales check, mixed with polka dot, jewel tones, and florals, but was not helped by the young and thin models who mostly looked as if they were wearing their mothers’ clothes.
