Last night's London concert at the 02 Arena, which brought a close to the "Good Evening Europe" holiday tour, could be just the beginning of more shows at that arena. Paul McCartney told Absolute Radio in the UK he'd be interested in doing an extended run of shows there. "Last time I ever did that was when The Beatles used to do Christmas shows, and it was brilliant because... you would be there for a week or two. It was fantastic, just dossing in your overcoat and everything," he told Geoff Lloyd, as quoted by the BBC. There have been rumors of concerts in the Southern Hemisphere, possibly Mexico and Brazil and also Australia in 2010, but nothing has been announced. McCartney also talked to Absolute Radio's Christian O'Connell about the tour and the CitiField show.

Paul McCartney to embark on his big farewell tour in 2010
Beatles legend Paul McCartney will be going on the road for the final time next year with a string of huge concerts to mark his retirement.
According to the Sun, the 67-year-old is in talks to play at landmark locations around the world including China's Tiananmen Square and Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin – the crossing point of the old Berlin wall.
"Paul wants to go out with a bang," a source told the paper. "He's played countless stadiums over his 50-year career and is on the hunt for the most unusual locations he can find."
"The tour in 2010 is likely to last well over a year, by which time he will be almost 70."
"He might play the odd benefit gig if the likes of President Obama gives him a bell – but other than that he'll be putting his feet up and enjoying retirement."

McCartney Brazil concert rumors update: Paul's spokesman replies; the extent of those online rumors
As part of looking into the rumors of the Paul McCartney concerts in Brazil that we wrote about on our Beatles Examiner site, we contacted Paul McCartney's spokesman for a comment. The reply we received was straightforward: "There are no live dates in place yet at all."
Meanwhile, in doing a little looking around, we were surprised to find the extent of the rumors posted online. Most of these are not new and, in fact, in some cases are over six months old. As was noted in the comments to our earlier article, rumors about McCartney playing Brazil have been circulating for a while.
The most interesting, though not any more believable, is from no less than the Brazilian website for Rolling Stone magazine. This page has been online since last June. It's in Portugese, but here's a translation (using Google) of the first paragraph:
Paul McCartney will include Brazil in it will probably be the last megaturne of his career, the second column in the magazine Lauro Jardim See. Will, in principle, two shows in April 2010: one in Sao Paulo and Brasilia - this to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the nation's capital.
The page has some information that shows it's now outdated, including a statement that "The new tour will cover 100 cities in the world and should be extended for two years". That has since been proven wrong, since McCartney has only been playing short tours covering only a few cities at a time.
The Brazilian Rolling Stone site mentions SongKick.com, a British ticket site, where five concerts are listed between February and June, an incredibly long stretch. The dates are Feb. 26 at Praca Da Baleia at Rio Das Ostras, Brazil; April 16 at Maracana Stadium in Rio De Janeiro; April 18 at Morumbi Stadium in Sao Paulo, Brazil; April 21 at Esplanada dos Ministerios in Brasilia; and a second one in Sao Paulo at Estadio Marcelo Stefani on June 12. However, it looks like anyone could have added them. (The site asks users to list concerts they know about that the site doesn't.) Pollstar, which is a reputable listing for concerts, for example, does not show any McCartney concerts for Morumbi Stadium.
The translation of another link by Lauro Jadim of Vega.com seems to say that negotiations to bring Paul McCartney to Brasilia were unsuccessful. It also would confirm that that particular SongKick listing is, at the moment, basically someone's imagination. It's probably not the only listing that's just a rumor.

McCartney vows to wow Scots fans after 30 years
SIR PAUL McCartney wants to play in Scotland for the first time in three decades, it has been revealed.
The Beatles legend last played in Scotland since 1979, when he treated fans to an appearance with rock band Wings in Glasgow.
But now the 67-year-old, who owns a farm on Kintyre, and famously released the anthem Mull of Kintyre, wants to do a UK tour to take in Scotland.
McCartney has asked gig promoters to look into a date north of the border as part of a ‘Union Jack’ tour.
The rock star previously had to pull out of a gig at Celtic Park in 2003 as part of the Back In The World Tour after losing his voice.
A spokesperson for McCartney said: “Paul would like to do some dates this year but nothing has been organised yet.”
And a source close to the Beatle said: “Paul would love to play Scotland – he wants to do the whole Mull of Kintyre thing with a pipe band up there – and he had a real affection for the country – watch this space.”
The Liverpudlian began a European tour last month in Hamburg, before playing in Berlin, Arnhem, Paris, Cologne and Dublin, and ending with a full Mull of Kintyre pipeband set in London.
His brother Mike, a photographer, has just finished a collection of the Highlands, and said that his family are exploring their Scottish roots.
McCartney has just released his CD, Good Evening New York City, a live collection of tracks over a three day gig in the Big Apple.

Chicago's Wrigley Field may host Paul McCartney this summer
Major League Baseball teams may not be the only ones hitting home runs right out of the ballpark at Wrigley Field this summer. Fox Chicago News reports that the Chicago Cubs, who own the ballpark, are currently in talks with Paul McCartney, Dave Matthews Band, Phish and the long-running Billy Joel and Elton John package which came to Wrigley Field for two dates last season.
Concerts at the ballpark were mired in controversy last year when a neighborhood group rallied for the cancellation of a Rascal Flatts concert. The group claimed it violated a previous two-shows per year agreement and that the date conflicted with a neighborhood festival. The Cubs have reassured neighbors that they will work with them to meet their needs and address their concerns.
Nothing has been confirmed so far, but Paul McCartney at Wrigley Field? Break out the peanuts and Cracker Jacks.

Wrigley could host three concerts again this summer
Wrigley Field will host three concerts for the second summer in a row if the local alderman gets his way.
Ald. Tom Tunney, who 44th ward includes the Wrigleyville neighborhood, introduced an ordinance at today's City Council meeting to allow concerts on July 7 and Sept. 17-18 at the ballpark at the corner of Clark and Addison streets.
Though the ordinance does not mention bands, a source with knowledge of the situation said the July 7 date likely will be a return engagement by Elton John and Billy Joel, while the Dave Matthews Band, Paul McCartney and Phish are potential acts to play the two September dates. Just one of the acts will take the stage both nights in September, the source said.
Tunney said he decided to pursue another trio of concerts on the heels of two concerts last year by Joel and John and one by country act Rascal Flatts because most of his constituents enjoyed that experience.
"First of all, they are a significant economic development tool, bringing a lot of people into our neighborhood, spending a lot of money, and our residents actually like it. The majority of them like them," Tunney said.
Neighborhood groups were unhappy with last year's decision to allow three concerts instead of two. Tunney said he would negotiate the specifics of the concert deals with Chicago Cubs officials, and said he is still considering whether to request that the team give back one of its scheduled night games in exchange for one of the shows.
"We're still negotiating, it's very early in the season," Tunney said. "So one of the things to get out in front of the community about whether night games is on the table. There's also financial considerations, including givebacks to the schools and some other things."
Tunney's proposal will go to the council's License Committee for consideration.

PAUL MCCARTNEY'S DOUBLE FESTIVAL
PAUL McCartney is set to play two festivals this summer according to my spies in their wellies.
I hear the Beatles legend, 67, will top the bill at Isle of Wight and Hard Rock Calling.
Green Day are set to do the business at Reading Festival. With Glastonbury already in place for Stevie Wonder I’m expecting him also to grace Hard Rock Calling. Meanwhile, Aerosmith have been confirmed for Download Festival.

This screen capture that was up a short time on the Hollywood Bowl website shows a Paul McCartney show at the Bowl on June 15. That listing is now gone.
Is Paul McCartney playing the Hollywood Bowl? For a short time today, the Bowl calendar listed a Paul McCartney lease event concert for June 15. (See screen capture above). That listing is now gone.
Barbara Chamberlin and a Twitter user both saw a local TV ad mentioning a McCartney show there on March 30. At least one other website has that information as well.
"But the promo on NBC's LA station this morning was really professional showing Paul playing Live and Let Die and it said tickets on sale Feb. 23rd and it showed the Am Express logo at the bottom. Both my husband and I saw it. So I am keeping that channel (Olympics channel, too) on in hopes it will come on again," Chamberlin told us.
Chamberlin says there's no info on the American Express website.
Meanwhile, a ticket broker is listing McCartney concerts for March 30-31. But the Bowl calendar shows a conflict for one of those nights and this is likely a result of the rumors that have been floating around.

Looks like someone may have let the cat out of the bag a little early. We're trying to get an answer from the Bowl on what this all means.

Official press release:
Paul McCartney has announced the first two dates of his forthcoming, extensive ‘Up and Coming’ 2010 tour. In keeping with his headline-making special concerts over the last few years, the tour will see the iconic star and his band play unique venues, places and locations; new cities he’s never played and familiar markets he’s not visited for a while.
Paul’s first live concert of 2010 will take place in Glendale, Arizona at the Jobing.com Arena on Sunday 28th March. This will be Paul’s first appearance in Arizona since 2005’s mega ‘US Tour’ which saw Paul rock out across America, performing 37 sell-out magical performances. Tickets will go on sale Monday, March 1st at 10am at livenation.com, ticketmaster and Jobing.com Arena Box Office. To charge call 800-745-3000.
Straight off the back of the Arizona date, Paul will return to the legendary Hollywood Bowl for the first time since 1993. Paul first appeared at the Bowl with The Beatles 46 years ago in August 1964 and then again a year later in August 1965. These shows were recorded for a live album (The Beatles At Hollywood Bowl) that was not released until May 1977. As with all The Beatles live shows, the technological limitations of the day found the band overpowered by the screams of female fans. Decades later the crowds are just as loud but superior technology now allows Paul to overpower the screams, and overpower them he does! Macca’s live shows have reached a new legendary status in recent years, garnering unprecedented reviews from fans and critics alike wherever he goes.
These will be Paul’s first US shows since his five-week ‘Summer Live ‘09’ tour last year, which was prefaced by a triumphant sold out headline set at the 2009 Coachella festival and a surprise performance for CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater (inside which The Beatles made TV history decades ago) that drew throngs packing Broadway from Columbus Circle to Times Square. The ‘Summer Live ‘09’ tour began in earnest with an already legendary inaugural run of shows at New York’s Citi Field Stadium, the site of the former Shea Stadium where The Beatles played the 1965 concert that set the precedent for the modern day stadium rock show. Critics hailed the Citi Field performances, seen by over 100,000 people, as the concert experience of a lifetime. Those performances were immortalized on last year’s RIAA gold-certified multi–disc CD/DVD ‘Good Evening New York City’.
The new show will feature a typically diverse set list drawing on 2 hours plus worth of selections spanning the catalogues of The Beatles, Wings and Paul’s solo career, including tracks from The Fireman’s 2008 album ‘Electric Arguments’. There will be some never-before-played-on-US-soil songs added to the set list as well as the US live premiere of ‘(I Want To) Come Home’, Paul’s Golden Globe nominated track from the Robert De Niro movie ‘Everybody’s Fine’.
Paul finished 2009 on a high when he brought his ‘Good Evening Europe’ tour to a close on the 22nd of December with his only UK show at London’s O2 Arena. Reviews for the show were phenomenal and prove that Paul McCartney is a live experience that no-one should miss. “The man is living history and the way he continues to bring new energy to his past is incredible,’ reported the UK’s largest Sunday paper, News Of The World. The Telegraph exclaimed, “Paul McCartney used his only UK concert of 2009 as a showcase for an epic display of back-to-back basics music-making. Armed only with his four-piece band and the greatest collection of hits in pop history, he traveled back and forth across the decades like the Dr Who of rock and roll. Whatever elixir the 67-year-old Macca is running on remains a mystery, but he seems to get a huge charge from performing to an audience, especially one that is bombarding him with waves of adoration.”
More live shows to be announced soon. Keep checking. |

Paul McCartney is coming to Glasgow in the summer.
Sir Paul skipped Scotland last year when he played seven arena shows across Europe culminating in his first ever show at London’s O2 Arena – his first UK dates since 2004.
But now Macca has revealed that he’s making up for the omission by playing Hampden Park on July 1. Ticket prices have yet to be confirmed.
Only the biggest venues can hold the former Beatle, who pretty much guarantees sell-outs wherever he plays. Last summer he made musical history by inaugurating New York's Citi Field over three nights, witnessed by 120,000 people. The concert, Good Evening New York City, is now out on DVD.
McCartney has a special connection with Glasgow. His single, Coming Up, released in 1980, featured a B-side live version recorded with Wings in Glasgow. It was the only Paul McCartney solo single to top the US charts, largely thanks to the B-side which was preferred by American radio to the more highly-synthesised A-side.

Paul McCartney Announces First “Up and Coming” Tour Dates
After a 2009 that featured a headlining set at Coachella and the inaugural concerts at New York’s Citi Field, Paul McCartney will return to the stage this year with his “Up and Coming” tour, which will stop at unique venues and rarely visited cities throughout the U.S. The trek begins March 28th at Phoenix, Arizona’s Jobing.com Arena, marking the first time McCartney has visited the state since his 2005 tour. On March 30th, McCartney returns to the Hollywood Bowl for the first time since 1993. The exclusive pre-sale for both shows is going on now at McCartney’s official Website, with a general public onsale scheduled for February 28th. McCartney promises more shows are on tap for 2010. Rumors have been circulating in recent weeks about the Beatle possibly performing at Chicago’s Wrigley Field this summer, but so far that has not been confirmed. Like last year’s concerts, which were documented on the live album Good Evening New York City, the 2010 shows will feature music from McCartney’s entire catalog, from the Beatles to Wings to his most recent Fireman album, Electric Arguments. A press release hints that new songs never before performed by McCartney will also be on the set list, including the track “(I Want To) Come Home,” his contribution to the Everybody’s Fine soundtrack.

More Shows Added To Paul McCartney’s Forthcoming Tour
Sun Life Stadium, Miami – 3rd April 2010 Coliseo De Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico – 5th April 2010
Second Show Added At Hollywood Bowl By Popular Demand
Hot-off-the-heels of announcing the first two concerts of Paul McCartney’s forthcoming ‘Up and Coming Tour’ (Glendale AZ on 28th March and Hollywood CA on 30th March), the rumour mill has gone into overdrive predicting where Macca and his band will turn up next.
The speculation ends today with the announcement of two shows that are set to be his hottest of the year. The first is at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami on the 3rd of April; the only Florida appearance of the tour, the April 3 gig is also Paul’s first show in Miami since he launched his massive 2005 ‘US Tour’ at Miami’s American Airlines Arena five years ago. On April 5th Paul will play his first ever show in Puerto Rico.
In addition, unprecedented response to the presale for Paul’s March 30 return to the Hollywood Bowl has necessitated the addition of a second show on March 31. Both shows will go on sale to the general public this Sunday, February 28.
These new dates are in keeping with Paul’s huge headline making concerts over the last few years, where the world’s biggest rock star has played to millions of people across the globe. These concerts have taken Paul to places he’s never been before, unique settings, venues and locations, and these new dates are no exception.
The Arizona and California dates will be Paul’s first US shows since his five - week Summer Live ‘09 tour last year, which was prefaced by a triumphant sold out headline set at the 2009 Coachella festival and a surprise performance for the Late Show with David Letterman on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater (inside which The Beatles made TV history decades ago) that drew throngs packing Broadway from Columbus Circle to Times Square. The ‘Summer Live ‘09#8242; tour began in earnest with an already legendary inaugural run of shows at New York’s Citi Field Stadium, the site of the former Shea Stadium where The Beatles played the 1965 concert that set the precedent for the modern day stadium rock show. Critics hailed the Citi Field performances, seen by over 100,000 people, as the concert experience of a lifetime. Those performances were immortalized on last year’s RIAA gold - certified multi - disc CD/DVD Good Evening New York City.
The new tour will feature a typically diverse set list, drawing on two hours plus worth of selections spanning the catalogues of The Beatles, Wings and Paul’s solo career - including tracks from The Fireman’s 2008 album ‘Electric Arguments’. There will be some never-before-played-on-US-soil songs added to the set list, as well as the US live premiere of ‘(I Want To) Come Home’, Paul’s Golden Globe nominated track from the Robert De Niro movie ‘Everybody’s Fine’.
More live shows to be announced soon. Keep checking in here

Paul McCartney whips up more 'Up and Coming' arena shows
Paul McCartney, who earlier this week revealed the first two North American stops on his 2010 "Up and Coming" tour, has tacked a few more shows onto the impending itinerary.
The former Beatle will return to the road beginning with a two-night stand March 28-29 in Glendale, AZ, performances that will be his first in that state since 2005. Since last check, four new dates have been confirmed, including a second night at LA's Hollywood Bowl (3/30-3/31), which he hasn't played since 1993.
McCartney first appeared at the Hollywood Bowl when The Beatles performed there in August of 1964, and again in 1965. Those shows were recorded for a live album that didn't surface until 1977.
The legendary performer will also host concerts in Miami (4/3) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (4/5).
Tickets for most of the new dates go on sale Sunday (2/28) via Ticketmaster.
McCartney's latest shows represent the first few dates on what a press release describes as an "extensive" 2010 road trip, further details of which will be posted at McCartney's website "soon."
The new roadwork will feature a diverse two-hour plus set list, according to a press release. Along with songs from his time with The Beatles and Wings, McCartney will also perform work from his solo career, including the US live premiere of "(I Want To) Come Home," the single which earned him a recent Golden Globe nomination and was featured in the Robert DeNiro movie "Everybody's Fine."
Last year, McCartney spent five weeks on the road during his "Summer Live '09" tour, which included a run of shows at New York's Citi Field Stadium that were recorded for the gold-certified CD/DVD set "Good Evening New York City."

Sir Paul McCartney set to play Glasgow gig for first time in 20 years
BEATLES legend Paul McCartney is heading back to Glasgow for the first time in 20 years.
We can exclusively reveal the superstar will play a massive gig in the city this summer.
Top-secret details won't be unveiled for another 48 hours but Sir Paul will headline Hampden Park on June 20.
Macca, 67, plans to end his 50 -year live career with a huge farewell tour performing in venues where he has not previously appeared - and our national stadium is No.1 on his hit list.
His spectacular show comes two decades - almost to the day - after he last played here. On June 23, 1990, the singer rocked the SECC as part of Glasgow's celebrations as European City of Culture. Originally, the show was to be staged at the adjacent Queen's Dock but was switched to the indoor venue.
A McCartney insider said: "Paul has always loved playing in Glasgow since his early days with The Beatles. He has a great affection for Scotland and his home in Mull of Kintyre in particular.
"He went to High Park Farm when the group split and spent many happy times there with his late wife Linda and their children. The Hampden show will spark off many emotions and memories for him.
"There have been a few missed opportunities over the years but Paul is thrilled Hampden is the venue. He loves Scotland and wants to play there again. It will be one of his greatest gigs ever."
His Hampden show is long overdue.
In 2003, McCartney disappointed Scottish fans when a gig planned for Celtic Park - part of his Back To The World tour - was shelved.
McCartney kicks off his latest tour with gigs in America, including two shows at the Hollywood Bowl in California on March 30 and 31, a venue for concerts by The Beatles in 1964 and 1965. Macca's farewell tour will last right up to his 70th birthday.
Since 1990, he's clocked up 800,000 miles gigging, playing in more than 22 countries. He still holds the world record as a solo act for performing in front of the largest paying audience, rocking 184,000 at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the same year.
He will thrill fans at Hampden with a new stage show which features classic Beatles hits such as Drive My Car, A Day In The Life, Hey Jude and Get Back.
McCartney first played Scotland when The Beatles backed singer Johnny Gentle on a tour in the early '60s. The Fab Four toured extensively north of the Border and he also played several gigs with Wings, including memorable dates at the Glasgow Apollo.
Full details of his Hampden Park gig will be announced within days.
